Hour by hour

Your day aboard.

Noon to nine the next morning — the shape every cruise follows, give or take the light and the water your captain reads.

  1. 12:00Board & welcome

Check in at Punnamada jetty. A tender-coconut welcome, cool towels, and a walk-through of your boat and crew before you cast off.

  2. 13:30Lunch on the water

A Kerala lunch served as you cruise — karimeen fish, avial, thoran and rice on a banana leaf. Veg, Jain, halal and vegan menus on request.

  3. 16:00Village walk & canoe

The boat noses into the narrow canals. Step off for a coir-and-toddy village walk, or take a country canoe where the houseboat can't follow.

  4. 17:00Evening tea

Chai and hot snacks — banana fritters, bonda — on the sundeck as the light turns gold.

  5. 17:30Anchor for sunset

By backwater regulation every boat anchors before dusk. The engine stills and the water mirrors the sky — the quietest hour of the trip.

  6. 20:00Dinner under lanterns

A multi-course dinner cooked fresh by your chef, served on deck under lantern light. Bring your own bottle — no corkage.

  7. 08:00Sunrise & breakfast

Wake to mist on the water. Appam and stew, puttu, fresh fruit and filter coffee on the sundeck as the boat gets underway.

  8. 09:00Ashore, unhurried

Cruise back to the jetty and disembark by nine — or extend on toward Kumarakom and the bird sanctuary.

Beyond the boat

What the water carries you to.

Shikara & canoe rides

Glide the narrow canals the houseboat is too broad to enter.

Fishing, cook-your-catch

Line fishing off the stern — whatever comes up, karimeen most evenings, goes straight to the galley.

Village & coir walk

Coir-spinning, mat-weaving and toddy-tapping in the paddy villages.

Kayaking the paddy canals

A two-seat kayak off the stern, mornings only — flat water and mist.

The chef at the market

Pick the evening's karimeen and spices with your chef at dawn.

Cycling through Kuttanad

Bicycles on the bund roads — flat, green, below sea level, an hour before breakfast.

Kathakali & folk music

Lantern-lit performance on deck at anchor — Mohiniyattam or a Kalaripayattu bout by arrangement.

Cooking with the crew

Chutney on a grinding stone — an unhurried lesson in the galley, or a village kitchen.

Ayurveda massage

A therapist aboard for a backwater Ayurveda treatment.

An hour ashore

The Ambalapuzha temple and its payasam, or Marari's empty beach at dusk — the captain times the mooring.

A swim off the boat

Where the lake runs clean — early morning or late light; the crew knows the spots.

Kumarakom bird sanctuary

Extend the route to Pathiramanal Island and the bird sanctuary.

Add-ons, on request

Before you board

Asked, answered.

The questions every party asks before the jetty. The full list — food, kids, monsoon, payment — lives on one page.

All questions, answered

Never. Every vessel in the fleet sails one party at a time — the only other people aboard are your captain, chef and steward. This is the rule of the fleet, not a paid upgrade.

20% holds the boat

The balance is due before boarding — never on the jetty.

Full refund, 30 days out

Tiered to 7 days; festive dates are non-refundable.

Weather never strands you

If the water closes, we reschedule or refund — your choice.
